Since last June, I discovered a whole new world, a new hobby. A hobby that’s fun and made me happy when I’m sad, more than reading any books or any movies can make me.

The world and hobby is this : all things about Korea.

I like to watch korean dramas once in a while from a long time ago, but that’s just it. I like them just as much as I like american tv shows and movies.

BUT a friend of mine introduced me to the world of korean tv show, of korean reality shows. And I got hooked instantly. They’re fun, addicting, and not garbage at all, unlike Indonesian or American reality shows. They got me addicted to Korean culture and place. I love their culture, how they are taught from an early age to be very polite and loving to their parents. How they are not vulgar, didn’t endorse PDA, but all the while the romance can still seem cute. How much they love their country.

The longer I watch them, the more I think that west culture, or should I say american culture, tend to lean on the vulgar side. And that made me appreciate korean a lot more. When I love something, I went all out. I once got addicted to german history and I searched all night for articles on the internet. And I love korean culture now.

I researched their history, learn the language, tried the food. And the more I watch them, the more I like them.

And the most important thing that I learned while doing this is : this new hobby actually made me really happy. Like really happy. When I’m sad, I usually watch some movies, listen to some musics, or read books. But I actually learn that the joy I got after watching these korean shows is actually twice or third the amount of them. They’re really fun and addicting.

I learned how they nurture idol groups, learned how korean singers seldom date publicly because it’s considered a scandal. I tried kimchi, dokbokki, bibimbap, and many korean foods. And I actually love them all.

All in all, I think I found a new hobby that is satisfying, addicting, and fun at the same time. And what’s more fun is, I learned that a lot of my friends got this same addiction at the exact same time. So I have more things to talk about.  Yay for a fun new hobby :)
